You can sign in to a different account in each profile, even when they’re all on the same site, and the accounts won’t get in each other’s way.

For a couple of your own accounts, that’s all you need. But if you manage many accounts on one site, Chrome profiles have a weak spot: they all use the same IP address and the same computer, and websites can see that.

Contents

What Chrome profiles keep separate

What Chrome profiles don’t separate

When Chrome profiles are enough

When Chrome profiles aren’t enough

Chrome profiles vs Accovod profiles

How to move your accounts from Chrome to Accovod

FAQ

Summary

What Chrome profiles keep separate

Each profile keeps its own bookmarks, history, saved passwords, settings and cookies. The separate cookies are what stop accounts in different profiles from logging each other out.

You can also sign a profile in to a Google Account. Its bookmarks, passwords and settings are then saved to that account and show up on your other devices where you’re signed in.

Profiles work well for simple cases: when several people share one computer, or when you want to keep your personal and work accounts apart. What they can’t do is stop a website from seeing that the accounts are open on the same computer.

What Chrome profiles don’t separate

If you open two Chrome profiles on the same computer and look at what the browser sends to websites, only the cookies will differ. Everything else is the same: the IP address, browser version and user agent, screen size, number of CPU cores, graphics card, language, time zone and canvas fingerprint.

These are the signals a site can use to tell that accounts are open on the same computer. For your own work and personal accounts that’s normal, since any home computer looks like this. But when ten accounts on the same site come from one IP and one device, they look like one person with ten accounts. People who run many accounts know where this often leads: after one account is banned, the accounts linked to it get banned too.

Chrome also has no proxy setting for a single profile. Under Settings → System there is only a link, “Open your computer’s proxy settings”, so the proxy is set for the whole computer rather than for one profile.

Within Chrome, a profile can get its own proxy only through an extension. But an extension changes only the IP, while the screen, graphics card, language, time zone and canvas fingerprint stay the same. You end up with, say, a German IP and your home time zone and language. That mismatch is easy to spot: Pixelscan, for example, shows “Timezone spoofed” in this case.

So if accounts on the same site must not look related, they need different IPs and different fingerprints. Chrome profiles can’t give you that on their own.

When Chrome profiles are enough

If all the accounts are yours and nothing bad happens when a site sees that they’re connected, Chrome profiles will do. For example:

your personal and work accounts

one account on each of several sites: one store, one ad account, one page

a test account for your own project

To avoid mixing up the windows, give each profile its own name and color. If you also turn on “Show on startup” in the profile manager, Chrome will show your profiles every time it starts, so you can pick the right one.

When Chrome profiles aren’t enough

Problems start when you have several accounts on one site that must stay unrelated, for example accounts of different clients on the same social network.

Each of these accounts needs its own proxy, ideally from the country where the account usually works. In Chrome, that means installing and setting up a proxy extension in every profile. With three to five accounts this is still manageable, but the device stays shared, and every new account adds more settings to keep track of.

It gets harder when other people work with the accounts too. An assistant replies to clients from their own computer, you sometimes answer from your phone, and logins and passwords start getting sent around in chats.

If the accounts on one site belong to different clients, a ban on one must not affect the others, or a team works with the accounts, it’s time to switch to an antidetect browser. There, each profile has its own proxy and its own fingerprint, and all profiles are kept in one place.

Chrome profiles vs Accovod profiles

Chrome profiles separate browser data. An antidetect browser also gives each profile its own proxy and its own device fingerprint.

Chrome profiles

Accovod profiles

Separate cookies, history and passwords

Yes

Yes, each profile has its own cookies and storage

Own proxy for each profile

No, the proxy is set for the whole computer; a separate one only through an extension

Yes, HTTP or SOCKS5, checked right in the form; language and time zone can follow the proxy

Own fingerprint for each profile

No, all profiles share the same screen, CPU cores, graphics card and canvas

Yes, each profile has a unique fingerprint, on Windows and on Mac

How profiles open

Each profile in a separate window

All profiles as a list in one window

Mac and iPhone

Bookmarks, passwords and settings sync through a Google Account

Cloud profiles sync between Windows, Mac and iPhone (Cloud plan)

Access for a teammate

Only at the same computer

Share a cloud group by email without sharing passwords (Cloud plan)

Price

Free

Local $15 a month, Cloud $25 a month (prices as of October 2026)

Chrome wins on price. But of the two, only Accovod gives you separate IPs and fingerprints, one window for all profiles and access for a team.

How to move your accounts from Chrome to Accovod

Accovod is our browser for working with multiple accounts, so we’ll show the move using it. In Accovod, each account lives in its own profile with its own cookies, storage, proxy and fingerprint. All profiles are shown as a list in one window, and you switch between them in one click, like tabs. On Windows, profiles run on Chromium or Microsoft Edge, on a Mac they run on real Safari (WebKit), and the iPhone and iPad app opens the same cloud profiles.

To move one account:

Open the site in the Chrome profile and export its cookies as JSON with the Cookie-Editor extension. If your cookies are in a Netscape cookies.txt file, convert them to JSON first with our cookie converter.

In Accovod, click New Profile, enter the site in the Platform field and the client’s name in the Account field.

Paste the proxy (HTTP or SOCKS5, the host:port:login:password format works too) and click the check mark. Accovod shows the IP and country and can set the profile’s language and time zone to match the proxy. It’s best to use a proxy from the country where the account usually works.

Tick Auth by Cookies, paste the JSON and click Add. The profile opens already logged in. You can read more about logging in with cookies in our docs.

If you don’t have cookies, just log in with your username and password inside the profile. The session is saved, so you won’t need to log in again next time.

After the move, stop using that account in the old Chrome profile and don’t click Log out there: on many sites, logging out also ends the session you just moved. Every field of the form is explained in the guide Your first profile in Accovod.

To give an assistant access, you don’t need to send them passwords or cookies. Put the profiles in a cloud group and share it by email (Cloud plan): your assistant works in the same accounts, and your passwords stay with you.

Keep in mind that Accovod doesn’t sell proxies: each profile has its own proxy, but you buy it separately. And if an account breaks a site’s rules, it will be restricted in any browser, Accovod included.

See plans

FAQ

How do I create and switch Chrome profiles?

Click the profile icon at the top right and select “Add Chrome profile”. Chrome will offer to sign in with a Google Account, but you don’t have to. Then choose a name, photo and color scheme. To switch, click the profile icon again and pick another profile: it opens in its own window.

Is a Chrome profile the same as a Google Account?

No. A profile is a separate set of browser data on your computer: bookmarks, history, passwords, settings and cookies. You can sign a profile in to a Google Account to sync that data to your other devices, or use it without any account.

Do Chrome profiles have separate cookies?

Yes, each profile has its own cookies, so you can be logged in to two accounts on the same site in two profiles at once. The IP address and the device are still shared.

Can a website tell that two Chrome profiles are on the same computer?

It can. Two profiles on one computer have the same IP, screen, graphics card, language, time zone and canvas fingerprint; only the cookies differ. In Accovod, each profile has its own proxy and a unique fingerprint.

Can I set a different proxy for each Chrome profile?

Not in Chrome’s settings, which only link to your computer’s proxy settings. You can set a proxy for one profile with an extension, but the device fingerprint stays the same. Chrome also doesn’t support SOCKS5 proxies with a username and password. In Accovod, each profile has its own HTTP or SOCKS5 proxy, with a username and password if needed.

How many Chrome profiles can I have?

You’re unlikely to hit a limit. The real limit is convenience: each profile opens in its own window, so ten profiles mean ten windows. On Accovod’s Local plan the number of local profiles is unlimited, and they’re all in one window.

What’s the difference between Chrome profiles and an antidetect browser?

Chrome profiles separate only data: cookies, history and passwords. An antidetect browser also separates what a site uses to recognize the device: each profile gets its own proxy and a unique fingerprint. Accovod profiles pass Pixelscan and BrowserScan checks. In popular antidetect browsers, each profile still opens in a separate window, just like in Chrome, while Accovod keeps all profiles in one window.

Summary

Two or three of your own accounts: Chrome profiles are enough.
